Thursday in Mexico

Are you sick of hearing about our trip yet??? I hope not cause I have three more days left to go!

Thursday (day 4) was again another fun filled day! We went on the Kontiki boat adventure that stopped at three different places you could only get to by boat. The first place- Los Arcos we snorkeled. It was kind of a disappointment though because the water was so dark and muggy that we didn't see any fish! Well, one of the guides did find a star fish, but that was all. After that we had the choice to go the Las Animas (it's a small island with a few restaurants, some shops, and a nice beach) or Quimixto-- another small island where we could hike to a waterfall. Since we had been hanging out on the beach all week we decided to do the waterfall hike. Our guide explained that they only have one car on the whole island of Quimixto and it's used to transport goods on and off the island. Other than that they get around by mules and horses. The animals looked almost dead though. I saw a puppy eating dirt and it was skin and bones. I felt so bad for it! There was the option to rent a horse for $150 pesos (about $15 per person) to ride up to the waterfall, but we decided we needed the exercise so we walked it. It was about a 35 minute hike is all, and it was worth it because the water fall was so cool and refreshing. It gave us a good chance to wash all the sweat and sand off!

As soon as I stepped off the boat some local guy stuck an iguana on my shoulder and said "50 pesos for a picture". I was like "what! no way, you just threw this on my head!" So we gave him 50 cents instead. Sneaky Mexican lol.

On top of all the activities on the various islands we also had fun during the boat ride. The guide was hilarious, and was full of jokes, funny stories, and other entertainment. I got called up in front of every one, along with 3 other girls and 4 boys to do a "dance off". It was girls versus boys, and of course the girls won. I was the last girl to go and the crowd had a fun time asking me all sorts of questions like where I learned my Spanish, where I was from, etc. The guide asked me what my name was, and in Spanish my name almost sounds like the word for "sheet" (as in a sheet you sleep on) so he decided to give me a Mexican name. It was about five names long (as many Mexican names are) and I cannot even remember what is was except that the first name was Maria. It was a pretty fun experience, but I tell ya trying to dance on a boat that is moving and bouncing with the waves is a hard thing to do! Unfortunately, the prize for winning was a huge beer, so I just gave it away!

Wednesday in Mexico

Wednesday was a day we had been looking forward to--zip line day! I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit nervous beforehand. It had nothing to do with heights, but because of the fact that we were in Mexico and I wasn't sure if the equipment would be top of the line or safe. I was also afraid that while driving through the jungle some crazy drug lords would take our bus hostage...I let my imagination run wild sometimes! Luckily, it was a fun, safe day! Total there were 11 zip lines. They started off with a couple "baby" zip lines to practice on, and they got longer and faster! We had amazing guides who were funny and entertaining (they worked hard for a tip lol).

Dan and I did some tricks including going upside down and the "superman" which was extremely uncomfortable, but a good way to see the jungle and the city below!

Our group was great fun. We had a couple from a Cruise ship, and a couple from New York.

Afterward we got to walk around the jungle and enjoy the scenery.

We took a short nap while waiting for our bus ride back to the hotel.

It's hard to say exactly which tour was the most fun because they all were, but this was definitely in a close run for first! If you go to PV make sure you do the Nogalito canopy zip lines! I wish they had something like it here in Utah. Park City seems like it would be a good place!
